Music At First Baptist Church a

First Baptist Choir
The FBC Choir consists of 10-20 singers of all voice types who enjoy singing great choral literature together. The group provides most of the music during worship services throughout the school year. Most months we sing on three Sundays. In many ways, the FBC Choir is a traditional church choir, but we have been known to branch out into musical theatre, South African and gospel when the spirit moves us.

In addition to regular church services, we participate in choir festivals. This year we sang at the Living Waters Baptist Association choir festival and at the AME Zion Gospel Extravaganza.

We rehearse every Thursday evening from 7-8:30 p.m., September through June.
If you have questions or are interested in participating, please contact the choir director, Jennifer Lawrence Birnbaum, via email or telephone 277-SONG. We'd love to have you join us!

For a report and list of the music program's selections played during 2007, please see our Music Report.

The New Creation Singers
The New Creation Singers is a small worship band that strives to provide meaningful acoustic music in the folk and contemporary genres for services at First Baptist.  The group provides music about once a month for the Sunday morning worship services at First Baptist.  We draw our music from the varied musical experiences of members of the group, contemporary Christian music, the more traditional folk idiom- wherever we find meaningful music that interprets to us and, we hope, to the congregation, God's unconditional love and his working in our lives.

On occasion we also have provided music for various community programs, including during registration activities for local Crop Walks and, more recently, performed an evening concert at the Norton Chapel of Keuka College as part of the 75th annual summer retreat of the American Baptist Men of New York State. To see more, please visit our page.

We usually rehearse about twice monthly, on Monday evenings.  If you are interested in participating, either vocally or on the instrument of your choice, please contact Dave Caughey via email or by calling 273-7864. We would love to have you join us!

YFOFFI

YFOFFI (Young Folks, Old Folks and Folks In-Between) is a musical group that started in 2004.  The desire was to get the youth involved in and bring alternative spiritual music to our worship services.  We play a blend of gospel, blues, and rock.  Our musical ideas come from our group members, as well as from members of the congregation.  We often write new lyrics for music we like, or vice-versa.

YFOFFI comes together as the spirit moves us, usually providing 2 or 3 songs for a worship service 3 or 4 times per year.  We have a fairly erratic practice schedule which attempts to blend the different schedules and availabilities of our members with those of our church sanctuary practice space; usually 2 or 3 practices on Saturdays/Sundays prior to our performances and some weekday evening sessions for the vocalists.  For the last 2 years we have played benefit dances (“sock-hops”) for Katrina disaster relief in Mississippi and building a children’s school in Sierra Leone.

If you are interested in learning more about YFOFFI or participating in some of our musical offerings, please contact Danny Scott (272-3504).
Peace,
Danny
