Summer Christian Education Program On Sunday, June 20th, you are invited to begin reading and discussing The Confessions of St. Augustine. Comprised of 13 Books (chapters) written between AD 397 and AD 398, Augustine created a new form of self-expression, especially about intensely personal feelings and experiences, that remains the most influential way to explore the mysteries of religious belief.

Discussions of this book will take place at 8:45 AM on Sunday mornings in the church library. All are welcome to join even if you must miss some sessions during the summer. We will be using the outstanding 2nd edition of Augustine's Confessions published by Hackett in 2006 and available for $10.00.

Healing Ithaca: Interfaith Group Series of Prayer Services for Healing Ithaca

WHAT: A series of 30-minute prayer services hosted by local faith communities
WHEN: Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, and Sept. 7, 2010, from 5:15 – 5:45 PM
WHERE: Greater Ithaca Activities Center (GIAC), 318 N. Albany Street, Ithaca

ITHACA, NY: Local faith communities will host a series of four prayer services, each Tuesday, beginning Aug. 17, 2010, and ending Sept. 7, 2010, from 5:15-5:45 pm, at the Greater Ithaca Activities Center (GIAC), 318 N. Albany St., Ithaca. The series was developed in response to recent events in Ithaca, including the arson at the home of Officer Bryan Bangs and events associated with the death of Shawn Greenwood. Open to the public, the gatherings offer opportunities for healing, understanding, and reconciliation.

Last March, Calvary Baptist Church and St. Paul’s United Methodist Church hosted a community prayer service where members of the Ithaca community could come together to pray for the health and well being of the community. A larger group of faith communities now offers a series of weekly opportunities to come together in a spirit of sacredness and healing. The gathering will honor shared values of the community and seek wisdom for next steps to address the pain and anger that have arisen between and among community members.

Each service will be hosted by a different faith community, some in partnership with each other.
