First Baptist Church Building Use Policy

Article IX of the By-Laws of The First Baptist Church in Ithaca, New York, states “The church building, on decision of the church staff, shall be made available to individuals and groups whose purpose is consistent with the church’s mission in the community and as the church calendar permits.  Request for permanent use of the building shall be referred to the Board of Trustees.”

The Board of Trustees, in a resolution dated May 5, 2002, provides the following guidance for the church staff and individuals and groups using or requesting use of the church building.

Regularly occurring and occasional First Baptist Church events, activities and programs take precedence in scheduling use of facilities.

A fee will normally be required from non-church individuals and groups for use of church facilities.  This is to help defray maintenance and other costs.  The fee schedule is given below and, except for weddings, is due upon acceptance of the request and scheduling by church staff.  Fees for weddings are due no less than two week prior to the event.

Smoking is prohibited within the church building.  Alcoholic beverages may not be served at weddings, funerals, and other receptions offering refreshments.  Non-church individuals and groups may not use the gas stoves and ovens in the kitchen or the gas lighting in the Sanctuary.  The maximum number of people in the Sanctuary and Community Room may not exceed the limits set by current Ithaca Fire Department regulations.

Individuals and groups using the church facilities are responsible for cleaning up after themselves and leaving the facility in the condition in which they found it.  If needed, they may arrange with church staff to hire the church Custodian.

Please call First Baptist Church at 670-273-5800 for further information or to discuss fees associated with use of our space.
